"Striking Freedom" Installation. Left to right: Sculptor David Spellerberg, and Trans West's Barry McComic, Tara Clark, Chris McComic and Geoff McComic.
In November, Griffin Ranch unveiled four life-size, bronze horse statues. The statues are part of the late Merv Griffin's vision for the community, and are the first of 11 to be installed over the next two years including a statue of Stevie Wonder Boy, Merv Griffin's beloved racehorse and Kentucky Derby hopeful. Stevie Wonder Boy will be erected at the planned Griffin Club.
"Desert Spirit," a set of three statues, is located at the community's lake near the entry gates. These anatomically portioned sculptures simulate horses running across a stream.
Standing 7-1/2' tall and 9' long, "Striking Freedom" is located at the corner of Madison Street and Avenue 54. In late November, this sculpture was dedicated as public art to the City of La Quinta. La Quinta Mayor Don Adolph attended the dedication ceremony.
All 11 statues were designed and created exclusively for Griffin Ranch by David Spellerberg of National Heritage Collectors Society in Westlake Village, CA. Boasting museum quality with a patina finish, these magnificent one-of-a-kind sculptures further enhances Griffin Ranch's distinction as a world-class equestrian community.
